Last week we traveled up to New England for a Harper Family Reunion. This was our first attempt at an East Coast reunion for a mostly West Coast family. We only had 20 attend (out of about 80) so it was kind of a small group, but it was tons of fun. Airline prices, new babies, and busy schedules kept many of the family from attending, but we were so glad for those who were able to make it. And really, keeping 20 people together while sightseeing was enough of logistical challenge. After we left New York, we traveled up to New Hampshire where we met at David's niece Rachel's house.

Day 1: Boston by Trolley, Boat, and Double Decker Bus
For the first day of the reunion, we headed into Boston. We decided with the group we had and the time we had, we would take a trolley tour of the city.
Our tour took us all over the city. We saw the Old North Church, the Boston Public Gardens, the Cheers Bar and
the Old State House. We also stopped at the U.S.S Constitution.

As part of our city tour, we also took a boat tour up the Charles River. It was beautiful to see the skyline of both Boston and Cambridge from the water.
After all our tours, we finished the day with dinner at Legal Sea Foods. We definitely had to get some Boston clam chowder. And of course, David had to sample the lobster.
Rachel and her family live in a beautiful area about 1 1/2 hours outside of Boston. It was very wooded and rural and the kids had a fantastic time playing in her yard--jumping on the trampoline, finding frogs in the pond and playing in the treehouse. Rachel has 4 kids, two of which were boys close to Ben's age. Ben had a fantastic time with his cousins--finally he wasn't the only boy.

I was amazed at how many universities are there so close together. They said on our tour that the average age in Boston is 28 since there are so many college students.

After all our tours, we finished the day with dinner at Legal Sea Foods. We definitely had to get some Boston clam chowder. And of course, David had to sample the lobster.
