Since this was our last summer in DC, we decided to brave the crowds and head downtown for the 4th. We visited Pershing Square, the Willard Hotel and the White House Visitor Center.
We got to take turns signing the Declaration of Independence.

We also went to the White House.
In the late afternoon we got ourselves a good spot on the Mall, right near the Washington Monument. We had to endure some rain, but didn't give up our spot right near the concert band stand. David scored us some pizza, and we played cards until the concert started. The United States Air Force Band played fantastic music, and then the Gatlin Brothers gave a great concert. The music continued as the fireworks started. The show was spectacular!

There is nothing more patriotic than watching the fireworks in our Nation's capitol! I love our Country!
The craziest part of the day was the metro ride home. We've done it on the 4th before, but it is always hillarious to cram on the metro with the other 1 million people who have also watched the fireworks. After a 10-block walk, we had to wait more than a half hour to get on a train, and even that one didn't look like it would hold 1 more person, let alone all 7 of us, yet somehow we managed to squish on. Lots of fun memories!

Ya gotta love the Metro. (Especially after riding the subway in NY. The Metro is like heaven.)
