The butterfly house was amazing. They told us they normally have about 300 butterflies, but they had recently taken butterflies from another exhibit that had closed for the season, so now they had about 600 butterflies. There were butterflies everywhere!
They landed on all of us.
This one on Kate's shirt stayed on for a long time. One of the workers finally had to take it off before we left.
There were so many beautiful species of butterflies. The kids took oodles of pictures.
While we were waiting for our ticket time to see the butterflies, we went to the Museum's new Ocean Hall.
There were all sorts of strange specimens on display. We learned a lot about unusual creatures that live in the sea. They had a section on bioluminense--creatures that make their own light, and a display on the creatures that live down deep in the ocean by the vents--giant tube worms, white crabs, etc. Very wild.

You guys take the best field trips! I'll definitely have to take advantage of the free Tuesdays since that is one of my days off! And I love your picture of the kids at the top of your blog. It's so cute!
Very cool! Bremen read that that ocean wing opened so we're a bit envious, but loved looking at your pictures! You guys are so good about exploring and teaching your kids, I love it!
You are so good to take your kids to such unique things. They will really remember and appreciate those experiences when they're older. My dad was the same way and it helps improve your general knowledge of subjects.
I went to the Butterfly Room at the Amer. Museum of Nat. History in NYC in '02 and you're right - it's awesome! Were there lots of orchids? Aaah, such a perfect photo op for hard to find flowers...
