We spent Saturday playing along the Potomac River at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. A doctor that David works with has a house there and he invited all the department to come for the day. It was beautiful. The weather was a little cold and wet in the morning, but by early afternoon the sun came out and warmed everything up. We had fun canoeing and kayaking.
Rachel really wanted to try the kayak by herself, but she wasn't really strong enough to row harder than the current, so David and Ben had to go out and save her.
On the way home we quickly drove through the town of Harper's Ferry. We decided we definitely need to go back. It was very picturesque and full of history, and well...there's just something about the name....

Gorgeous!!! Too bad you didn't get your Christmas card picture. Maybe next time. So were there museums or visitors centers or anything where you could learn all of the historical stuff??
Our drive through was brief, but it looked like there are two separate parts--the battlefield and the town. The entrance to the battlefield had a sign similar to Gettysburg and Antietam, so I am guessing there would be some kind of visitor's center there. In the town there were signs all around explaining the historical significance of the buildings, so it would be pretty easy to do a walking tour and learn a lot.
What a fun day for your family. Those are great pictures. I love the picture of Dave with all the kids. So fun!
