Piano Festival

I spent last Saturday in Seattle at a piano festival with the three oldest.  They had events in etudes, sightreading, scales, solos, and rhythm.  My mom came with us and it was fun to spend the afternoon together.

David brought the little kids up and met us for dinner.  We had a super great meal at P.F. Changs, which I hadn't been to forever.  Afterward, we went to the piano teams recital. Sarah and Rachel both played on a piano team this time (Ben played in the fall and had a December concert. He'll play on a team again starting this fall). Piano teams consist of five children on five different pianos. The sound they make together is incredible! Sarah's team played The Star Spangled Banner and Rachel's team played The Entertainer.

I asked Ben at the end of the day if he had fun. I was sort of worried he might say no because there was some down time between events, and it was a long day. But he replied that it had been a fun day. He also told me (without prompting from me) that he loved his piano teacher and definitely wanted to take from her for a long time. Ah... music to my ears. No tiger mother here when it comes to piano. Just a good teacher who totally motivates my kids. 


After a day full of piano, we walked a couple blocks to a fun fountain.  There is a path in between the two "waterfalls" where you can walk, so the kids had to try it out.  They got a little wet.  But it was fun!
