Spring Break

This week was Spring Break.  We told the kids that this break was going to be a working vacation.  And we definitely worked.  I think the kids are looking forward to going back to school tomorrow. 

David took 4 days off, so he was home to spearhead many of the projects.  This week we:

• Built a new section of the fence
• Weeded, tilled, and planted the garden 
• Moved strawberry, volunteer flowers, and potatoes in the garden
• Cleaned out the kitchen cupboards
• Put up a new shelf in the pantry
• Cleaned and organized the pantry
• Took everything out of Kate and Rachel's room, dejunked, painted the walls and ceiling, and reorganized and rearranged the furniture 
• Hauled rocks and arranged them in our landscaping
• Spent a morning weeding beds and spreading gravel and bark on trails at a local park for Parks Appreciation Day.

We did try to fit in some fun too.  All the kids had friends over to play at least once--most of them more than that.   We celebrated Sarah's birthday, spent a day shopping, and she had friends come over to surprise her.  She even had two dates this weekend!

Planting the garden

These flowers all came up as volunteers.  I moved them from elsewhere in the garden and put them on either side of the stepping stones. 

We've been enjoying this plant called sorrel for over a month or so now.  It is a lemon-flavored green that is delicious in a salad with strawberries and almonds. 

I got these garden stakes at the farmer's market last summer and have been excited to use them this year. 

 The strawberries are already flowering.  I'm hoping for a good crop this year.
