Kate the Great is Eight

Kate had a birthday last week.  It was a fun day!  We had our traditional family birthday celebrations, including eating strawberry waffles for breakfast (eaten on the birthday plate), decorating her door with streamers, and putting balloons on her bed.  Later that evening we had her birthday dinner.  Kate chose the menu of steak, cream cheese mashed potatoes, corn, and celebration bread.  Then we opened presents.

She was very excited to get a make-a-plate kit--she has been asking for one for a really long time.

She also got some doll clothes for her American Girl doll, and some embroidery floss for her embroidery project.  Grandma Hales gave her a scripture case for her new scriptures that she will get on her baptism day in a couple of weeks.  Kate was also excited that I made her a pink polk dot fleece blanket just like the other girls got for their birthdays.

They had to pose all together.

But mostly they just couldn't stop laughing.

Happy Birthday Sweet Kate!  I can't believe you are already eight!

I did an interview with Kate and here's what she had to say:

Favorite color: turquoise and yello
Favorite foods:  steak, corn, cheese pizza
Favorite desserts:  yellow cake, cheesecake squares, fudge
Favorite books:  Boxcar Children series
Favorite thing to play:  American Girl Dolls
Most prized possession:  necklace from the Sea of Gallilee
Best talent:  drawing

Kate wants to be an author/illustrator or a kindergarten teacher when she grows up.

We think Kate is wonderful and are so glad she is in our family.  A few other things about Kate:
  • Kate wakes up happy every morning.  Even if she has been up late and is tired, she still smiles at me first thing.  It is wonderful, since some of my other children do not wake up so happily.
  • Kate is a fabulous friend.  She makes friends easily and somehow knows how to navigate the tricky girl drama that sometimes happens.
  • Kate loves to read.  I keep finding her sneaking off to her room to get back to the book she is reading.
  • Kate is a good big sister.  She plays with William and takes care of him.
  • Kate is a fashionista.  She loves new shoes and matching handbags and fancy headbands.  She adores new clothes, even if they are from the bins in the closet.
  • Kate loves her acro dance class and we often find her doing headstands and cartwheels around the house.
