We skipped school on Friday to go on a road trip up north. Our first stop was the Tulip Festival in Mt. Vernon, Washington. Grandma Hales was going to come with us, but it was snowing over Snoqualmie pass and the roads were too dangerous. We missed having her come. We even had some crazy weather driving north--snow and hail and slick roads for a few miles. But by the time we got to Tulip Town, the sun had come out and it was nice, even if a little cold and windy.

The tulips were beautiful! Rows and rows of tulips in all different colors and varieties.
After spending a couple hours enjoying the tulips and eating lunch, we headed north again and crossed the border into Canada. We had to wait about 45 minutes to cross the border, but once we got across, the new Vancouver, British Columbia temple was only about 20 minutes further in the town of Langley. Friday was the first day of the temple open house. It is a beautiful temple.
Our tour guide was so great and did a wonderful job explaining to our group what goes on in the temple. It was a much more personal experience than touring the Oquirrah Mountain Temple in Utah this summer. The artwork in the Vancouver temple is exceptional and even though it is small compared to some, it very much feels like a temple.
By this time it was mid-afternoon and it had finally warmed up. It was a lovely drive home in the sunshine.

a friend of mine blogged about that tulip festival last year.....It is absolutely amazing! Such cute pictures
I am loving all your tulip pics. Brian served his mission in the Netherlands so we have a soft spot for tulips. We've got to hit that festival some day. And I am SO impressed how you just take off on a road trip by yourself with your kids. You're amazing!
Those tulips are amazing! You are an amazing mom as well. I'm impressed with all you do - especially with your hubby gone.
