We spent the 4th of July in Philadelphia. We thought it would appropriate since that is where it all began. We started the day with a ceremony at Independence Hall. We thought it was going to be a reading of the Declaration of Independence. It sort of was, but it was also a lot of inner city politics for which we had the wrong skin color and the wrong political affiliation.

After the ceremony, we watched the parade.
After getting some lunch and going back to our hotel to go swimming, we went to get a spot for the fireworks that evening.
We wanted to get fairly close since there was a Sheryl Crow concert ahead of time, which I thought would be fun. It was a great concert, but with two opening acts, she didn't start singing until 9:15 and didn't finish until 10:40. The kids were all so tired and frustrated that the fireworks weren't starting. Eventually we left our spot close to the stage and headed farther away so that we could get out of the crowds.
It was a late night, but the fireworks were great!
