Summer Vacation Teaser

We had some crazy weather here this week. Wednesday afternoon huge thunder and lightening storms rolled in, bringing several tornadoes as well. They hit just as we were leaving school. We ran to our car, but still got soaked in a matter of seconds. As a result of the storms, there were massive power outages in the area. We were lucky enough to have power, but much of our neighborhood as well as the schools, were without power. Since so many of the schools in the county were without power, the county cancelled school on Thursday. With one week to go until summer vacation, this day off mid-week was like a teaser for summer vacation. It was a great day! We took a trip to the library in the morning and got everyone set for some good summer reads. Then that afternoon we met our friends the Langfords at our favorite creek to play.

Even though it was a sweltering humid 95 degree day, it was cool and pleasant down by the creek. It is amazing to me how kids can be in a room full of toys and be bored, but spend hours at a creek playing in the dirt, throwing rocks, splashing and exploring.
