New floors

We've had issues with the carpet ever since we moved into this house.  It kept bubbling up.  We got it stretched once while it was under warranty, but when I tried to get it done another time, I was told it wouldn't fix the problem and we should save our money and buy new carpet instead.  So we did.

Getting new carpet is practically like moving.  It was one very long day.

We moved all the furniture downstairs to the hardwood floors of the kitchen and entryway.

We moved the furniture from one half of the upstairs into the other half.  That meant taking apart all beds, emptying closets, etc.  

 They set up in front of our house right in the street to cut and measure the big rolls of carpet.

As soon as they finished one room, we would hurry and move furniture into it and empty out another room.  And of course, I didn't want to put any furniture back until it had been dusted and cleaned in all those hard to reach places.  It was a lot of work.  They didn't leave until 9:00 p.m.  At that point we started putting beds back together.  It was a late night.  And it took a few days to really get things back where they belonged.  I tried to clean and sort all the closets, but it was a big job to do all of them at the same time.  

The new carpet in most of our house is pretty basic--a more formal dense beige for the living room an dining room, and a speckly softer carpet for the rest of the house.  Except for the office.  We decided to do something a little different and fun for the office.  I love how it turned out--although the guy that installed it didn't seem to like it at all.

It is nice and soft for the kids to spend time on the floor.

A few weeks later, it was time to redo the hardwood floor.  We scheduled a refinishing and repair of our hardwood floors during mid-winter break.  We had to be out of the house for 5 days while they did it, so it seemed easier to just leave town entirely.

This time I had to empty the pantry, the hall closet, the entry way, and the kitchen.

The pantry needed a good cleaning out anyway.

The floors turned out well.

And...no more burned spot.  

Once again, it took a few days to get everything put away, but the pantry is back together (and more organized!).  And we have beautiful floors throughout the house.
